I don't really agree.
I think the Navy is facing a leadership crisis that needs to be handled within the Navy. The Navy is constantly relieving commanders and skippers so often that it's the butt of duffelblog jokes. On top of that, there's the Fat Leonard scandal that is working its way to retired admirals. Plus, the recent implications of serious character issues within the SEAL command. The Navy had lost a lot of reputation within the community lately. It would be difficult to recommend a navalist to the SECDEF position. The Fat Leonard scandal itself has implicated almost every commander to sail the Pacific over the last decade.
The argument about the ships programs being scuttled leads back to the Navy recommending these technologically advanced ships instead of cheaper, workhorse ships.
What the Navy needs is commanders who push back on mission requirements in order to ensure their crews are actually trained. That's not my opinion - I've never even been on a ship - it's the opinion of the Navy that it's sailors were/are inadequately trained in basic seamanship.
I don't disagree that the current acting SECDEF is seen as favoring Boeing, and even the president has ties to favoring Boeing. Boeing has been a strong leader in contracts lately and has invested heavily in lobbying over the last few years.

“America is a maritime nation with no legitimate enemies in its entire hemisphere. Naval preeminence is our clear military priority, even if it must come at the expense of the Army’s budget share and force structure.”

Right on, for sure. But is it really our clear military priority? when was the last major Naval battle? Even with all of the Tom-F*ckery in the Navy the past few decades, isn’t our Navy still the preeminent naval force in the world?

Between crashing boats, fat Leonard, SEALs more interested in being famous than being SEALs, murdering soldiers, commanders are relieved and swapped out so often, it’s like kids trading baseball cards...like I stated, Tom-f*ckery....the Navy has suffered and is suffering from major leadership problems at all levels. A ‘navalist’ restoring the Navy to its former glory is the last the thing the Pentagon needs as the Secretary of Defense. (Navalists are the ones who are running the Navy into the goddamned ground). What the Navy needs is a no nonsense leader at the Pentagon who won’t tolerate the absolute ridiculousness that has been allowed to worm it’s way into every nook and cranny the Navy has.

I mist admit, certainly, that's an interesting title..."navalist'? I'd just never seen such etymology or usage, it's a good article, certainly, I just found the verbiage thoughts provoking, if nothing else, you know?
