After years of withdrawing units from Germany including our heave ABCTs, DoD is now looking to station an ABCT back in Europe to counter a growing Russian aggressiveness. I did some quick research and saw that we withdrew the last 2 ABCTs in 2013 along with deactivating V Corps. Putin started in the Ukraine in late 2014. I wonder if that timing is coincidental. I was stationed in Germany in 1990-1993 when there were two Corps, 4 Armored/Mech Divisions, 2 forward Brigades, 2 ACRs, and a huge logistical footprint all over Germany. Not that we are coming full cycle but it is interesting to see just 3 years later, we are now looking at stationing thousands of more Soldiers in Europe.

I don't think it's a coincidence --- I think it falls right in line with the Army Operating Concept....."environment of the future will be complex, constantly changing, requiring work with multiple partners across multiple domains." When you look at Atlantic Resolve and the geography associated with it and the assure / deter requirements, a single ABCT plus the assigned ABCT and SBCT is the right depth at the right time.
