The plague has never gone away, we've just gotten better at treating it. There's usually a couple of cases here in New Mexico every year, and it's usually in the northern and central parts of the state, not on the border.

New Mexico has several cases of plague every year. This type of plague is transmitted from animals to humans by flees.
