I never fail to be amazed by how fascinated, the supposedly permissive Left is, by the sex lives of Conservatives. In this article, the author posits that "Conservatives have significantly better sex lives than their left-leaning rivals". So, maybe the interest is more personal than the liberals are willing to admit.
