I worked on Johnston Island handling chemical weapons for demilitarization for 14 months.
When the wind direction of the plant designed specifically for this purpose was towards the barracks/residence aide of the island, we shut down. As I recall, the agent was exposed to 1,200°F for 15 min.
I would like to see the documentation on the discussion about the decision to destroy the munitions in the manner chosen.

I have several fellow Coasties who spent time on the LORAN installation there. I am sure they would like to as well.

To clarify, I was referring to the open air destruction in Iraq.

I realize that. I was just noting I am familiar with the operations at Johnson Island. My buddy who was there said it was a little disconcerting to be issued a gas mask on arrival.
