I think this is just the nature of the beast. Since the conclusion of the 2016 elections, the only thing keeping the different democrat factions together is their hatred of President Trump. With new focus being put on the 2020 election, the different factions of course won't be able to agree on which person to nominate for the presidential race. After all, it's much easier to despise the POTUS then to agree on a viable candidate to win the next election cycle.
