PO3 Ricky Foster This article is nice, and it pays respect to armed forces around the world, but... the one thing that cannot be quantified is fighting spirit. It doesn't matter if a nation has the largest fleet, most aircraft, most tanks, or even a nuclear arsenal. If they lack fighting spirit, then all the technology in the world is useless. Look at North Korea, for all their sabre rattling, they stay in their home territory, and avoid being a part of the international community. It is not necessarily a lack of fighting spirit, but for all of the ultimatums, they have shown little action (which is a good thing I guess). Additionally, there has to be an ability to deploy that technology. You can have super advanced systems, but if they fall short in practicality, they are useless. Case in point China's new aircraft carrier. It is outwardly a step toward countering our carrier fleet. Look behind the curtain, and you see that it cannot launch munitions laden aircraft, which means that the planes flying off her deck will not be able to defend the carrier effectively, never-mind projecting force forward.
