I agree. It’s time to get away from the 5.56

There are some naysayers out there, which one of their key points is that the 6.8 exerts more pressure/force on the bolt, leading to the possibility of the bolt failing prematurely. I am not sold on that (I agree bigger bullet = more force), as the 6.8 in an AR platform has a different bolt to begin with. The standard for building military rifles has been around forever (WWII), metalurgy has changed since then, and we can modernize that standard as well. As we don't know what rifle platforms that this bullet system may be developed for. I for one would like to see the M16 Family be retired for something that is far more dependable, not a maintenance nightmare for the operator to clean to keep functioning.

I will point I recently read an article that points out that the 6.5 Grendel has better results further out there then the 6.8 does, and the .224 Valkyrie has better results then the 6.5 and 6.8. All three can be run in the an AR platform if the Army chose to do so. Right now, anything is an improvement.

An article from the firearms blog on the performance of the .224 Valkyrie compared to other rounds

I agree. I have been wanting the M16 to be retired a long time ago. It’s had its run
