As a now former Army watercraft operator (had to reclass to come active duty last year), I can say this is a huge mistake. Those LCU's are workhorses of the fleet. Units were always requesting watercraft support and they also made for great public relations tours. I was on the boat that sailed to Baltimore harbor for the 2016 Army Navy game and we received a lot of positive press and high ranking officer visits. We have also attended and participated in the Miami sea and air show during Memorial Day weekend for the past 2 years. Having participated in the first one, it was also another high visibility gig for the Army. HQ needs to think this one over.
