Man they are making this to hard. Find something off the shelf that is .40 or .45 caliber and has rails. It's not that damn hard and would save a ton of money.

Spoken like a true SGM and operator. I was of a generation of officers who cried when the 1911 was replaced. Personally, I could run and gun with accuracy all day long with that pistol but really struggled with the M9. Something about the slant of the grip felt unnatural after shooting Browning's genius.
I everyday carry a Glock G-19 and on occasion my Ruger 1911 SR or Berretta Storm 9mm. However, I know people who swear by their S&W MP series pistols and some that love the Berretta M9.

Not to flaunt My age ...
But we (US ) had one of the finest Combat Sidearms in the world. It was the 1911 Colt It got US thru 2 world wars and multiple "Police Actions around the World. If Colt had only modified the Lower receiver to function as A double stack (13-14 Round Magazine) it would still be the Finest Combat sidearm in the world...
Now they are going out after a Replacement for the POS Beretta... The Military went thru this several years ago( 2005-2006)...
I have copies of many of the Original .45 ACP that were Presented to The Morons IN DC... and for some reason None were accepted... in the first round of Presentation... I guess the Congress Critters were Not Bribed enough... The Morons should have never tossed out the .45 ACP...
Now they are going with the Composite Nonsense....
Get Colt to retool and Redesign the 1911 and "QFA"
It's times Like these I remember why i retired...
a touch of personal History
I Have a 1911 manufactured in the Fall of 1912 and delivered to the "War Department" In Spring 1913 the Man who had it before Me,( I got it at an Estate Sale) was a Lt in WWI, a LTC in WWII and one Star in Korea... and managed to keep it the entire time... It is as Accurate today as any New .45 off the shelf and out of the Box you can Buy today... and fully operational... do you think any Glocks or Beretta's will be around in 105 years... Don't think so Tim..
Sorry I must be Really Old School... .

Amen my brother....I was of a generation of officers who cried when the 1911 was replaced. As to the life span of a pistol, it depends on the use and abuse it has to survive. Don't sell the Clocks or any of the composite guns today. Gun making is constantly evolving and getting better. Even so, we are living in a "disposable world" where the supper durability of the old 1911s are not valued. However, there are hundreds of "retooled" and modified 1911s around. Kimber and Ruger are the leaders in this area. For some really cool specialty pistols you can go to Wilson Combat and many more.

Hey Old School, I'm with you. .45 cal is still a sought after weapon in the Special Ops world where they still have some choice. The old 1911s just wore out, and then got the bad rep.
