Ugh, that picture gives me flashbacks. I spent 4 1/2 years on one of those.

As a stop-gap, why not? Assuming they float, they can be re-configured for a whole lot less than it would take to build a new ship, and it would hit the fleet sooner.

SSgt Christopher Brose - Perhaps we don't always need new toys, just better/improved versions of what's already in our toybox? lol

SSgt (Join to see) - Sometimes that is true, and I can think of no better example than the A-10. Way off topic here, but I think the F-35 is a huge waste, and it will NEVER do the CAS role as well as the Warthog.

SSgt Christopher Brose - Couldn't agree w/ you more, sir! They wanted the F-35 to be the Jack of All Trades platform. Turns out that it is the Can't do Anything platform.
At least the AF has realized it'll never be competent at CAS as the A-10 (nothing ever will with the "stuff as many toys as possible into the bird" mentality) & are focusing on having it replace the F-16, which is what it appears the bird was ideally meant to do in the first place.

SSgt (Join to see) - Its not supposed to fly. Its only supposed to keep the aviation industry employed. Concurrent spending is the defense contractor term.

SSG (Join to see) I posted an article on just that subject a couple weeks back. I think it is worth considering w/ China's build-up. Especially w/ the Island Armada they're building in the South China Sea.
