The U.S. Navy's bureaucracy sinks some of its proudest, hard-won traditions

thin skinned ... easily offended and politically correct ... its just more wearing down of the US Military Traditions as not to offend any one... Don't want every one running off to a safe place and hide till they are feeling better...

It truly hurts to see our proud and long standing traditions being done away with. Having our ratings stripped from us - something we worked hard to earn, a part of our name - who we are, it one of the hardest decisions the Sailors in the Navy have ever been forced to swallow. Replacing our uniforms and ratings with those more in line with the Army... what is wrong with keeping Navy Navy? I don't understand. However, what I will say is while they strip us of our traditions, I will never wash my coffee mug - and they can't take that away from me. My mug is so dark it would make even a Master Chief proud. Only black coffee - no sugar, no cream. Black and bitter.
