I would rather not speak to "what" treatments have worked for me since everyone will need something different, but I will say that it is like any other health en devour you take on... you will ONLY see results if you stick to it! My struggle with PTSD came to a head in my late 20's and I have not gone more than two weeks, over the last 10yrs, without seeing my therapist! Weekly therapy is the absolute minimum for me to lead the life I want. That being said, I was attacked while on a jog last year that retriggered PTSD; I began having panic attacks, sporadic sweating, sudden aggressiveness, and nightmares all over again. Foolishly I did not reach out to my loved ones and I quickly spiraled into severe depression! I joke now that when you have a broken leg, people are more patient with you because clearly you are recovering from your injuries... with PTSD though, people pile on the same ole'BS as if you are not recovering from something traumatic!
I ended up having to take two months off from work to seek recovery and stabilize myself before re-entering back into normal life... I learned some incredible lessons during this journey and it has brought me closer to the people that mean most to me in life!
This is a daily affirmation that helped me get through the worst days, the best days, and everyday since I wrote it. Hopefully there is a word in there for anyone else struggling or anyone that knows someone struggling.

I have a positive and nurturing effect on people, the kind that I long for myself. I am my best friend; I am my hero; I will value and protect my life with the same level of dedication I have vowed to my family, friends, and Country.

As soon as you begin to struggle, reach out and start building a support network... you can even put me on that list.

I am sorry that you have pts. The trauma is real and it did happen to you. We can only change our reaction to it. It sounds like you have an awesome outlook, support system and daily affirmation. recognized and re-corrected. One could not ask anything more of one's self. I thank you for making each day a new one. I am certain that your family knows you are a hero. You are very valuable and protected by this community and by simply being you. I personally Thank You for sharing your knowledge. You are indeed Outstanding.

I agree that it is individualized and not one size fits all. Nor should anyone be treated in that manner. But Honestly PTS is the similar to Diabetes, it does need vigilance and attention and just like diabetes, you really do not know someone has it. So we need to change the mindset on this stigma.

Yes Yes Yes! Agreed 100% Now that being said, that last thing we want to do is take something from veterans that is working, but it is time to reevaluate how PTSD is treated.

Kim Bolen RN CCM ACM As you know I'm a big believer in Sponsor a Vet Life, but with that said there are so many different treatments out there now. Not one size fits everyone! I think veterans and active members should try different things to see what they feel the most comfortable with and what works for them. Easier said than done! Here is a link to our Group Page (check us out) as a different alternative or just a place to meet other veterans facing the same issue; learn what they are doing and get some great peer-to-peer support.

Colonel, you know how much I adore sponsor-a-vet-life. It is another option available for those that are wishing to be around like minded individuals that somehow become family. It is not a Video game, albeit it appears that way; it is a learning to adjust in a safe place. There is no failure there, no judgement, just support. It is being with your battle buddy, you can learned hope to cope together via in the US or over seas. You could be in the same class, play around in the Military only section. Since, I have not been there, because I am a civilian, I am jealous~na just kinding. But please check it out, last time I was there I went shopping, flying, typing, chatting but best of all Dancing! Check it out, you will have a lot of fun healing.
