While normally I would support any endeavor that helps recruiting efforts, I would have to say no to this.

A sport team, that would take people away from their normal duties to compete for the sake of marketing the Army, should still reflect the Army culture/standards.

While we have people in soft skill MOS’ they still have to be ready to fight and win in combat (a basic function of a Soldier). The other sports in the All Army Athletic Program encourage physical fitness and competition. These athletes, often times, need to be in better physical condition than an average Soldier.

A gaming team, while competitive, does not reflect our commitment to physical fitness and rigor.

If we were to support this team I would hope that these Soldiers would not be pulled away from normal duties to train for events and competitions. Their training could be done via video/teleconferencing and an online network after normal duty hours.

Well said. Although esports are slowly becoming more mainstream, I can't help but think that his may be sending the wrong message to potential applicants.
