The US Should Offer Millennials 1-Year Enlistments To Test Out Military Service

What is the task and purpose of the military? Is it to develop and test new social justice programs? Or is it to defend our homeland and defeat any adversary? The military is already task saturated. There are more FORSCOM 350-1 required individual and collective tasks that any unit can accomplish in 52 weeks. So now the idea would be to add additional tasks to an already over burdened command team which would trickle down to each Soldier. Just develop a Work Corps and have it sponsored by Fortune 500 Companies and local educational institutions to include the Trades.

It would have to be a VERY select number of duty positions. With 2 months of Basic Training/Boot Camp, another several weeks to a month for job training, inprocessing at the gaining command and outprocessing on the back end of the enlistment, they would only actually contribute to the mission for maybe 9 months at most.
