My thoughts,

The Question posed "So what does this say about America in 2017, where the race, gender or national identity of a victim or police officer can affect the public's reaction to a shooting?"

Is impressive for a CNN reporter to ask, and I'm surprised they were allowed to. I do not think they would like my answer though. See I think that a large portion of America don't care about any of that. I think they care about the facts (Who Did What to Whom).... Many in the Back the Blue house will never back this person, not because he is a Refugee, not because he is Black, not because he is from another country, BUT Because he shot an unarmed women in her pajamas, as she was reporting a crime to his partner. The Back the Blue crowd see this as a criminal act. They back cops who legitimately shoot someone, if FACTS come out that say they were in the wrong they change their support. (I know I have) The BLM will never talk about police brutality of a white person because it isn't the Police they hate, its White people. You have a (pardon the unintended pun) minority in America that they must play the race card every day for every incident or slight. Where was the concern when a Black Police officer is gunned down while sitting in her squad car, or while trying to apprehend a criminal out side of a store? What Black Lives Matter? looking at the history of the BLM it seems that only Black Criminals Lives matter. How many BLM members protest the abortion clinics that effect the black community more than any other community? How many BLM members protest the gang murders and drive byes.... (sigh)

The Majority of America is resolute in their stand for the Law, they view criminal acts by citizens or police in the same category. Race, Creed, Nationality, Gender, Sexual orientation do not matter. The crime is what matters.

I think the author is correct in that the woman shot is not receiving the same amount of attention as previous victims because she is white. Other than that I am not so sure if I agree. Without the outrage over the shooting I think it would not be in police organizations' best interests to say anything otherwise they may end up attracting unwanted attention. As far as the media not digging up dirt on her, if no one is outraged over her shooting and the police are not defending the officer involved, what reason do they have to dig up dirt on her? In a few weeks when the investigation results are released things may change. We will have to wait and see. Either way it is a shame that she was killed. Firing inside the car across his partner does not seem like a very safe move on the officers part.

Yeah I read what his partner said and was extremely confused as to what would possess anyone to do that. She wasn't even on his side of the car and she was the one who called the police!

I also agree that because BLM is not a very structured movement is a reason. It has no structure and no central body that is the leadership. Anyone can attach BLM to something they say because of that.

So the basic question to me is..why did the officer have his weapon unholstered in the vehicle if there was no report of "shots fired"?

That is what everyone wants to know but it seems he refuses to talk to investigators. Everything we know is from his partner's version of events.

I'm not sure why anyone would refuse to talk to investigators in this case except the fact he knows that what he did was wrong. I'm sure it will come out eventually from him.
