1SG(P) (Join to see) How bad off do you have to be to take weapons even embargoed North Korea doesn't want? It is an interesting article. The weapon itself is heavy before ammo. The article talks about the box magazine for patrols, then switching to belt feed when under fire and the magazine has been spent laying down fire. The problem is at 10 kilos empty, you add both box and belt ammo for that weapon, you are going to have a seriously weighted down machine gunner. I imagine that alone changes the physical conditioning needs for one who is going to wield the weapon effectively. So it doesn't surprise me that PRK found a replacement for the Type 73. Thanks for sharing this, as I said, interesting article.

Interesting article. I wonder how the weapons were intercepted? We need to be more like North Korea and quit posting about our new technology.

This isn't new. It's hybrid, and this appears to merely be their surplus. What I think we can learn is an adaptability in manufacturing. For instance, I say the M-1 Garand was the best battle rifle of WWII. We didn't need to alter it. But we could've had a better light machine gun. Perhaps had we been more adaptive, we'd have something better decades earlier.

SSG Shavonde Chase I honestly think we want our adversaries to know what we are developing. We want them to see that we are far more advanced than they are. We want them to fear us before the first shot is fired. Whether or not that ever actually works, I cannot say.
