That's why military meteorologists are the best and most consistent in their prognostications!!! I don't knw about today, but in 1970, as a part of me Quartermaster "A" School coursework, I was trained in meteorology, as well. It was certainly not as intensive as what these soldiers go through today, but I am very glad for that tat training, much of which I can still recall when I observe the weather today.

IF the rock is wet, it's raining. IF the rock is swaying back and worth, it's windy, If the rock is missing...

Pretty sure we all do that...every day.

What do these guys actually do, that the app on my phone can't?

SGT (Verify To See) when nations go to war data, such as weather info, is restricted. Today's military is much more dependent upon the weather so these Airmen are trained to operate i n hostile environments to collect the needed information so that accurate forecasts can be made. Usually a civillian forecaster works in the same area for most of their career. This allows them to learn the local weather phenomena that the computers miss. These Airmen are trained to study worldwide weather phenomenon instead of just one area.
The app on you phone works because of the phenomenal amount of information it can access. Take away that info, as would happen in a hostile environment, and you have a very poor forecast.
Now I realize you are just a troll but your complete ignorance on this topic, unwillingness to do any research to learn more about the topic and your apparent need to post on a public forum to show your ignorance is stunning.
