Capt Daniel Goodman
Tum...when he and Crppen were dropped off the 747 in the test shuttle Enterprise, we were all watching it where I was in the O club, when the hatch opened, the 4-star who'd been a 3-star where I was greeted them...he did this thing with his fists, screaming "Yeah! Finally!"... before it had lifted off, he'd grabbed one of the chase plane F-5s from a stunned chase pilot he threw out, lifting off without asking to check atmospheric conditions, I think on that flight, I'm not entirely sure...when he and Crippen were in the cockpit waiting to go up on the first boosted flight on the tank after that, Kennedy or Houston were aggravating both testing software, he was told to load assembler code into the processor, they kept having him fix it, I heard him say something like, barely containing his exasperation on a news checked line, "We've got all days here, guys"... when he'd been on one of the Apollo landings, he was down with the other one he was with on the lunar surface using obscenities pretty freely, I saw a YouTube video of it, Houston said to him, " John, we've got a hot mike here"...needless to say, that somewhat instantly and abashedly quashed his overenthusiastic and considerably profane sense of exhilaration...when I was at USAF OTS, the Commandamt had invited one of his peers, who'd been on an earlier Apollo flight to chat with all the science OTs, they'd been friends, I got to ask one or two questions, I met another who'd landed near us years later after I'd gotten out, I had his aytugraped pivpcture for years till I'd lost it stupidly somehow, he'd given a speech at a college near us at the time....
