This is how the 1/9 Marines became 'The Walking Dead'

I was an FO with 1/9 after Vietnam... they wore that moniker as a badge of honor. I heard they were reorganized as light armored recon battalion in 2000, was surprised to hear their name again later. Sad to read they are ghosts again. Glad to be an orphan, proud to have served.

People who served that particular unit over the years have a particular nitch in MC history.
