I agree. Money is good and we need a certain amount but the satisfaction of working for an appreciative boss cannot be measured. Even a job you don't really like becomes acceptable if you like who you work for.

Consider how many (enlisted) military do not reenlist. They have free food, housing, healthcare, etc.; but many cannot stand their leadership.
Of course, if you pay me $10mm you can beat me everyday at work! haha

Cpl Shane Cunningham - I know. I've been out for 18 years and my troops still call me, still contact me; we have a lifelong relationship. I always thought it should be that way

The reason most people leave a company is a bad manager. Don't sell bad managers short though, you can learn as much from a bad one as a good one. Over the course of a 40 year career you WILL HAVE both good and bad ones and some that are indifferent. Of course, not everyone agrees on what a good or bad boss is.

In my 31 years I have had a couple of rally bad ones but I also knew they would not last and they did not. I have now had 22 bosses in 31 years (at the same company). So a new boss every 16-18 months on average. I always focus on the earnings not the leader. I self manage, that is really the best way to be. I do have a number of direct reports and have over the years too.
