To be fair, all US battleships in the Pacific had the same electronics, radar and fire control. So any USN battleship meeting with Japanese battleships would have been equally matched (excepting the 'risen from the dead' Pearl Harbor battleships with their different caliber main armaments). Where Washington succeeded was a brilliant task force commander, Admiral Willis Lee. Lee, though considerably older than his contemporaries, trusted radar and used it to his advantage.

This was my favorite ship to read about growing up. Being from Washington helped. Such an amazing ship and crew. Great post!
