I've thought suppressors for everyone in Afghanistan would be a good idea.

I am not sure what to think about this. On one hand I can see that it would be great to be able to get off a few shots without making a lot of noise. On the other hand, if I am the first person to see the enemy and I shoot one of them, I would like my entire unit to hear the shot and turn that direction to engage. I also wonder what affect this will have on accuracy of the weapons. The rule of a gun fight is this, the first guy to deliver an accurate shot wins.

Cpl Joshua Caldwell I hear you (ha!) on the marginal accuracy. Reports are definitely still loud enough for your unit to hear them and take direction from them. But harder for the enemy too (assuming you're not right on top of eachother. Either way, their shots (and muzzle flashes at night) sound louder (and look brighter) than yours and make them easier to find and accurately hit.

Capt Richard I P. -then I am 100% on board with this new development. Since you seem to be up on the suppressed weapon in combat ( I have only fired one at the range) What is cleaning and maintenance like?

Cpl Joshua Caldwell, to not claim too much expertise: I also have only fired them in training, but in that training could assess ability to orient on the sound as a unit. I have spoken with some folks who've deployed with them which helped inform my remarks. They mentioned cleaning the suppressors is about like cleaning the barrel and bolt carrier assembly depending on how thorough you want to be. Since unlike the barrel or bolt carrier group the round never touches the baffles i think practically you don't have as much reason to clean as diligently, but you know the Corps...

Capt Richard I P. - Im sure you can use 100 q tips and still fail the inspection but as long as it doesnt cause some sort of malfunction in a firefight, then no worries at all. Thanks for educating the old guy !!! Semper Fi

Suppressors, PEQ box, ACOG and EOTech can't go wrong for anyone that has to go outside the wire and may have to return contact. We even have PEQ box's and ACOGS/EOTech for our CSE TEAMS and SOF support Detachments in Afghanistan.
