Yes, the GOP establishment has every right to fear. No, it's not just about the sizzle. It's far more fundamental than that.
Once upon a time both major parties cared about what was right and wrong, rather than Right and Left. Neither party was the bastion of the Right, but both have been drawn to the abyss of the Left. The Democrats seemed to have toppled in while the GOP peers into its depths with morbid fascination. The Right and liberal/conservatives have been left without a home and both fight to claim the GOP brand as their own while the GOP establishment fights off both of their attempts. Why don't the Right and liberal/conservatives simply build their own brands? Simply because it takes time and money. They believe that it would take decades to build a winning brand and I believe they're correct.
If you are confused by my use of "liberal-conservatives", please allow me to explain. The Left likes to self-identify as liberal, but there's nothing liberal about them. Indeed, there's nothing they despise more than liberty. Conservatives love liberty. They are fighting hard to restore the love of liberty that liberals fought so hard to secure. That's why I consider myself both a liberal and a conservative, why I hyphenate them.
