Sorry that's all coming to an end and you can blame the DOJ and the ACLU (AKA - American Criminal Liars Union) for going state by state and bring law suits against all of the Dept. of corrections and the federal prisons too they want the hug a thug program and giving the offenders more rights than those of us who work as correctional officers.
its going to get worse before it gets any better.
maybe somebody should bring up a suit with the supreme court to get rid of the ACLU or get congress to declare it illegal and unconstitutional.

They have a long way to go in reforming the prison system as each state has it's own rules and system. Here in TX there have been a number of articles about the harsh conditions, esp the heat which both inmates and corrections officer have to experience. It took a federal court order a number of years ago to provide modest relief to overcrowding conditions. The prisons in TX were set up originally as state farms, where inmates would literally grow and produce everything needed to sustain themselves, from agriculture to clothing. They will have to come up with a powerful sponsor to promote and carry their fight forward. Not too many people have much sympathy for the typical inmate murderer, rapist and the like.

If you don't want to do hard time, don't be a criminal. I read the article, and I think they are complaining about being treated in much the same way they treated the people whose rights they violated. Prison labor should be mandatory, unpaid and uncomfortable. If you want air conditioning, you should produce enough product in your prison to PAY FOR IT. If you want fresh food, you should grow it. We could save the taxpayers a lot of money if we required these institutions for PUNISHING CRIMINALS to be 100% self sufficient. One last thought, it is prison...it isn't supposed to be fun.
