Thornberry: Politics hid depth of readiness crisis until now

After reading this, I have to ask what would these "gentlemen" have done IF Hillary had won the election? Having lived through the Carter "Hollow Force" of the late 1970s and being pushed from the Active Component into the Reserves, we are repeating history. It took the Reagan Revolution to get us back on track as a military force, something that could pull off the First Gulf War. Clinton's first four years in office squandered the "Peace Dividend" and started an overall decline in national security. Couple with cuts within the intelligence community and prohibitive information sharing policies, I could argue that the relative low readiness set the conditions for 9/11 and the GWOT. The last eight years have produce a worse situation if only because the GWOT and the rise of ISIS are still very real and still a threat to our safety and security.
