I read this (and think I posted this) earlier. I was infuriated. We spent trillions fighting other peoples wars, and then turn our back on our own people trying to pinch pennies... Unacceptable. There are thousands of those who served 6 additional years with a monitory guarantee - now the Guard is trying to take that back.. Once they figure out a way to give them the 6 years back, perhaps then they can come after the money. This is another way of harming those who serve - again, their "most important asset" as leadership likes to say. How come its only the good leaders who actually mean that? I'm disgusted with this whole thing. The Supreme Court needs to get ahold of this one.

I couldn't remember if I saw this posted. Should have looked closer. Glad you got it out there. This is a disgusting show of disrespect against these soldiers.

Don't bring out the pitchforks just yet. The bonuses were actually illegal, and some of them are outrageously silly, to the point people should have known.
Rumour has it, from people in the know, that the recent convictions are only the tip of the iceberg and a lot more people are going to jail over this.

Senior, if I signed a reenlistment contract for 6 years, being offered $20,000.. and retired 10 years later, only to have the military demand that money back - whether or not I was eligible or not from a DoD standpoint, the Guard offered me that money for my time in a contract. It should be on the Guard, not the service member, to provide that money back. This was a major flop on the Guard's part - not the Soldiers. You cannot say that 10,000 National Guard Soldiers all tried to rip off the Guard. It was the Guard authorizing the money "up front" before funding was approved or bonuses were approved that got everyone in hot water. Someone should get fired or held accountable, but it shouldn't be the service member. 10 years from now it the Navy asks for my $15,000 back, I'm going to laugh and get a lawyer. Like a National Guard Captain said, I'll give my money back when they give me my time back.
