Mark Twain wrote in "Letters From The Earth", "...[man] at his best is a low grade nickel-plated angel; at his worst he is unspeakable, unimaginable; and first last and all the time he is a sarcasm. Yet he blandly and in all sincerity calls himself 'the noblest work of God'" (Note that Twain uses the term "man" as inclusive of all mankind, all genders, races, religions, ethnicities, etc)
