The writer of that article certainly doesn't seem to have read that op-ed. The Generals are not calling for a coup; they are calling for actions to prevent a potential attempted coup.

LTC Kevin B. - You might want to rethink using Oxford, seeing as how they like to change definitions (like with gender) to bend to the will of the elites.
In this case, the fact that you have generals calling on the take over of the government due to an "insurrection," I would lean towards the idea that they're talking about the legal definition, not what Oxford says.
But if you want to use your definition, do you consider the BLM and Antifa riots also "insurrections?" They were organized, targeted attacks against the police and civilian controls, after all. And they were deadly. There were upwards of 25 people killed in 2020 alone during their protests.
I'm just checking to see if you're consistent.

Sgt (Join to see) - You might want to rethink focusing on laws. Laws change too, and almost always at the will of the elites. Nothing is static.
I don't have any problems applying that same definition to those protests. However, the primary differences make the Capitol riot a horse of a different color. Those other riots weren't planned, organized, and coordinated with members at the very top of our federal government. They also didn't involve our nation's Capitol building, and they certainly didn't involve a crowd being stoked (intentionally or not) by a sitting President. So, the whaddaboutism argument doesn't apply here.

Couple of thoughts, and then we've likely squeezed the max entertainment value from this subject. Of course it is material whether the January 6 political prisoners are charged with insurrection or not. Neither Oxford, nor Merriam-Webster, nor Funken Wagnal nor any other dictionary is imprisoning them. The Biden administration is, and they are subject to U.S. code. By which, they have not been indicted or charged with insurrection. Protesters didn't just die, they were killed by action an inaction of so called law enforcement to include a woman brutally murdered by one "law officer" and allowed, even facilitated, to bleed out by disinterested law enforcement - caught in multiple videos and in the public domain. Two things you do not know, is if the Jan 6 demonstration or the 2020 lawlessness by the armed and violent wing of the Democrat party was planned, organized, etc by persons at the very top of the government. As far as Jan 6 goes, Pelosi could release the video and names of FBI and other plants and instigators and we would know. If the DOJ had interest in an actual investigation into 2020 then we would know. Trying to deflect and label as "whataboutism" when 2020 is brought up or attempting to differentiate between the Capitol building and federal buildings in other cities is dissimulation at its finest. It does not matter if I am delivering a packet to the Embassy in Tokyo or sharing an ice cold Tusker's with that bodacious young state department intern in Mombasa, I'm in U.S. territory and my Marines will defend it. CWO4 Terrence Clark - It's obvious that you will continue to defend the actions of the DC mob, and you will continue to defend the politicians who, at a minimum, are attempting to downplay what we all saw happen on Jan. 6th. That's no even getting into the issue that I'm sure we disagree on about their potentially planning, enabling, and supporting that riot. So, in that sense, yes we have squeezed everything out of this discussion. No middle ground exists where I will condone the actions of those Jan. 6th rioters, what they were trying to accomplish, and the politicians who were (and still are) trying to benefit from their actions.

The three Generals want the "thought police" to be brought to bear. Oh yay! 1984 was an allegory, not a training manual.
