Another load of horse manure from the left wingers at Politico. The State Department is a diplomatic agency that should be fostering good relations while protecting our national interests. We have a plethora of agencies to manage covert activities to minimize Russia's influence in the USA. This funding is much better used by the DOD. This seems to be a strange budgeting agreement, a transfer of one budget to another? Where is Congressional oversight?

I agree, why do we need to spend 80 million dollars to counter Russian media. Not sure if I have ever watched a Russian media broadcast and could careless what they say. Waste of money in my opinion

The State Department has historically accounted for a large portion of our intelligence services, and moving all of it under the DoD roof might not be the best idea. Being associated with the State Department allows for a measure of immunity when overseas. Pushing that all to Defense will leave intelligence assets vulnerable. And if embassy security is moved exclusively to the military, there may be treaty conflicts with other nations.
And if your goal for Sate is truly to foster better relations with other nations, well, fighting terrorism is more than just a matter of dropping enough bombs on them. You need to earn the trust of the same people the terrorists want to win over. When the people of a nation support your side in a conflict, the enemy is on weaker footing, and "hearts and minds" and building relationships is definitely something that State is more prepared to do. It's the definition of "being diplomatic".

As I understand it, this is about Russian interference in our elections, not Intel. Agree on Intel gathering/ops. When Benghazi happened, State had excess funding.
