I have been in this exact scenario (how do I tell the chain of command that they have a real problem). It is not a very comfortable feeling. I know GCaptain is on to something here... Unfortunately, you will probably see over the next # of years, a decrease in accession of new surface officers. Which, ultimately, makes the problem exponentially worse.

SN Greg Wright Boyd was the man. We just lucked out to get him in the Air Force. I mean, how often can we Zoomies say we changed the way Marines fight battles?
I heard an interesting theory put forward today. Still along the hacking lines, but not of the Naval ships. Perhaps the civilian ships had been hacked? Apparently the lane of the tanker that hit the Fitzgerald went all over the place, and then went back in line after impact. I mean, that thing is roughly 3x the size of the Fitzgerald, right?

There are soooooooooo damn many ships out there! If it were to be hacked, and hang out just waiting to pounce on a Navy ship, maybe. But, DDGs were built to fight. They have massive amounts of HP and thrust that is available almost immediately. The root cause of these problems, I believe is a training deficiency, that does not allow them to see a bad situation developing soon enough to use the power they have to get out of the way.

LT Brad McInnis - I agree. I just thought it was an interesting theory. So far, folks have focused on hacking of the Naval ship, but not really looking on if the nav system on the cargo ship could've been the one hacked. They looked at its path & came up w/ this idea.
Still, the damn thing was HUGE and they should've seen it coming a long way off.
