I have had a claim "in process" for two years for an approved agent orange disability. My VA "advocate" says it might be another year or "whenever" before it is resolved. Maybe the new guy at the VA can make things more efficient.

Sorry to hear of your citation. I have seen many of my friends taken by Agent Orange. If you feel that they are dragging their heels on resolving your case and need assistance in getting your claim resolved, check with the American Legion or the VFW. They have people who are there to assist you with getting all the required forms and documents required to get your case resolved. I myself went through it twice and the second time when they actually were working my case it took over a year and closer to two before I got my settlement. Remember though that once you file and receive a letter from the VA, that they have your application they will give yo a case number and date. If you are awarded over 30%, you are intitled to a monthly disability check. They also are required to give you back pay from the date that they give you from when they received your application and case number. They will require you to do most all of the leg work in regards to getting all the necessary forms and documents they require to include a copy of any civilian medical records. This is why it is a good idea to check in with the American Legion or the VFW. Remember that there is also a patient advocate at the VA Hospital that helps veterans in getting the proper forms and getting them filled out properly. The VA will do very little to help you and kick back forms that are not properly filled out properly. That's the reason it makes sense to get help and there is no charge unless you use a lawyer to represent you and get your documents in order. I would also advise getting your congressman or woman involved if you get the run around as they don't accept this and will ensure you get the proper help. I hope this was helpful, and I wish you the best. We veterans need stick together and help one another as much as possible.
