I disagree. Once the enemy realizes close quarter combat gives them the edge because American Infantry is weak due to BS PFT's, it is game over.
Once the enemy figures this out, it also stops American technical superiority.
Why? Because, you can't use it, or you kill your own people.
Lowering standards and calling it gender neutral is a big mistake.

If you think that is a good idea, put together a company of female infantry and deploy them to a warzone like Afghanistan. 100% women. If women are equals this should not be a concern. If it is a concern the company is 100% women then you don't believe your own argument.

I think we all know how that would go. First, you couldn't raise a company sized element. If you could, most, perhaps all, couldn't carry the combat load or maneuver on foot for any distances and then be ready to fight. The injury levels would be off the charts and our enemy would direct all of their effort against them.

We can not fill our need with out women service members. But, to ignore the physical and mental aspects of warriors required by bloody hand to hand combat is lunacy. Yes, there are the onesie and twosies that can make the grade with current requirements, if so use them as appropriate. There is a reason professional sports and Olympians are divided by gender.

The total Soldier concept used to evaluate retention potential has come back to bite leaders who could not get tactical assignments in time. So, a good place to start would be to stop making distinctions between tactical and strategic duty stations when it comes to prioritizing training and distribution of equipment. Strategic units should be trained to tactical standards and "tactical" leaders need to stop saying, "This isn't the real Army."
