I don't care what number POTUS is in office, but that person would get a few more points in respect from me if they adhered to what POTUS #33 tried to adhere to.

I like the sentiment, but I'm picky when it comes to matters that matter. A more practical rule--but not nearly as pithy--is to ensure the proper amount of responsibility is assigned to the proper people.
Lt Calley led his troops in a massacre at My Lai, but it was MacNamara who didn't tell President Johnson that the second Gulf of Tonkin attack didn't really happen, and the first attack was really a defensive maneuver against a CIA/SOG-led attack against the North. Who caused the greater evil and who was convicted?
