I really cant fault your logic on this and as someone that Likes Trump i'm not liking this. I have mixed feelings about for profit prisons, on the one hand they can cut costs and takes a burden off of state and Fed gov. On the other hand they are paid to keep people locked up if you have no criminals they make no money.. Isn't the Justice system suppose to "reform" people so the don't commit crime again? Seems counter productive to their business model.
While I 100% disagree with doing drugs of any sort, I also think it should be up to states to decided. If what Bathroom someone uses is a states right how is being a dope and smoking dope not?
On the subject of Illegals I think Trump is tackling that issue from the wrong end. Build the wall stop the flood then remove the actual criminals (not reformed ones who have not reoffended and were never violent) Then work on a plan to make them all tax paying naturalized citizens, You stop the flow of drugs, the sweat shops, the human trafficking, ect ect.
What do I know right.

True CPO (Join to see). It IS up to the States to decide anything that is not specifically stated in the Constitution to be a Federal Government responsibility. Education, Legalization of Drugs, Gay Marriage, Bathroom designations, etc. are State issues. That said, California has no right allowing illegals to vote in National elections! When the Federal Gov't gets involved in State matters, it doesn't streamline anything; it just creates more bloat and another layer of bureaucracy that this country does not need!
Agreed. We must build the wall first and them work on getting rid of those that are here illegally. We disagree on whether those who were never violent should go back. I say that if you came here illegally, you knew what you were doing back then and you intentionally violated Federal Immigration Law. That doesn't make you an undocumented citizen; it makes you an illegal alien. You need to go back to your country and use the immigration system. If that inconveniences illegals and disrupts their families, that's something they should have considered way back when. Actions have consequences. You don't get squatters rights here. Consider how Mexico treated Sgt Tahmooressi. Mexico enforces their border security and holds people accountable for breaking their laws -- even when they didn't mean to!!! Their immigration policy doesn't grant citizenship to those in their country illegally. Why should ours?

Even government prisons are only businesses. They cut everything to reduce the budget. Retired from Virginia's DOC and I can tell you that an empty cell is like a hotel manager with an empty bed.

Capt Jeff S. - You are correct it is States rights for many things, When did the feds decide to control cannabis? Oh I do get it its all in the name of protecting the population but so was prohibition and it created more problems than solved. Col legal (by state rules) sales were 996 Million in 2015... that's 996 Million not going to drug cartels for a plant you can grow in your back yard. I don't think people should smoke it I think they are idiots but hay I also think people that root for the Sea Hawks have issues and that Egg plant tastes like azz, you don't hear me demanding it be banned. Honestly I think the Fed .Gov has over stepped it bounds for so long and so often that people have forgotten what it was created for.
On the Topic of Immigration I wrote this a while back have a read and then please get back with me on your thoughts about deporting everyone again.
I had an epiphany this morning while having a conversation with a friend over coffee. We were discussing the Immigration issue and two other people whom I know and who hate my Immigration idea. So let me set the stage for you on this topic. The first I will call Dee, Dee is a Far Left liberal. Pro-gay marriage, pro amnesty, pro Obama, pro Obamacare, ect. The other one is Jay, Jay is a Far Right conservative. Anti-amnesty, Pro Trump, Anti-planned parenthood, Pro death penalty ect.
Bother hate my idea for immigration reform. So you understand where I am coming from here is my thought process on immigration reform.
First you cannot have a discussion on immigration until the border is closed.
You cannot round up all the illegals and just deport them. This is no different than the concentration camps during WWII in Germany or the US (Yes we had them too). There are many good people just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. There are many kids that have only known America, so the blanket kick them out thought is not acceptable nor feasible. Let’s look at the feasibility of that plan. How much money would it cost to locate, detain, and transport all immigrants back to their native countries? They are not all from Mexico. Then there are all the jobs that will need to be filled, and what about their personal property? Are you going to steal it, ship it for them or make them sell it for a pittance? Any one of those ideas is exactly what the Nazis and Roosevelt did during WWII.
The inverse of that is you cannot reward those that choose not to follow our laws. You cannot pay healthcare, give out food stamps, WIC, unemployment, and all the other bonuses that come with US citizenship just for being here.
So what is the middle ground? What can a reasonable person come up with as a resolution? Here is what I thought up.
After the border is closed, institute a national drive to register ALL non US citizens currently with in the United States Borders. All non-United States Citizens would be given a SS# with a sub designation as Non-Citizen. They would NOT be allowed to vote in local or Federal elections. This is for Tax purposes and to identify them. This will be available for 6 months. They would be fingerprinted DNA swabbed residency located and employer information for tax purposes would be filed. All finger prints and DNA swabs would be available for Police nationally to cross reference with outstanding cases. All career criminals and violent criminals would be deported. At the end of the 6 months the normal immigration process will be reinstated. Anyone who enters the country illegally regardless of pregnancy or giving birth after the 6 month window will be deported. From the 6 Month mark all those that were registered with in it will have 2 years to complete naturalization class’s, learn basic English, and become a naturalized citizen, at which time all American Citizen rights will be acknowledged and awarded. They would have to pay for their own classes at a federally licensed school. Costs and courses would be set in stone so no price gouging or last minute add on classes. Failing to complete naturalization in 2 years regardless of situation they will be deported.
That is the nuts and bolts of my idea could it work? I sure think so. Would it be humane and cause the least amount of problems? Most definitely. Would anyone ever commit to writing a law like this? NEVER!! Here is why Dee thinks this is an evil idea. First it would require everyone to present their ID and SSN card to vote. Notwithstanding the Left wings penchant for Voter scams and ballot box stuffing, the Democrat party is 100% against voter ID. The argument Dee always uses is “halt show me your papers”. Jay on the other hand thinks they should all be charged as criminals have their property seized and then be deported “with a flogging” not sure if the last part was in jest or not…
Now politics aside I respect both of these people and they in turn have respect for me which is what led me to my epiphany, “We as a Nation can no longer rationally resolve our issues via negotiation and working with one another to better the Nation.” I present a simple solution and both sides devolve to partisan politics with in seconds. If I cannot get two rational adults over the age of 30 to come one step in from the left and right let alone to a middle ground how can we as a Nation get Congress, the Senate and the President to work together? How can we as a people fix the issues with in our Nation if no one will acknowledge their extremism? How can a candidate with common sense and a balanced stance on any topic get elected if all people look to is the extremists?

Those states should have never circumvented federal law in the first place, it is still against federal law to own, possess, and grow MJ. State law cannot be less restrictive than existing federal law. The confusion here is that former AG Eric Holder said he would not seek prosecution of people using pot in a state that voted it in. It was unconstitutional to have such a vote in the first place. Holder was derelict in duty to choose to use prosecutorial discretion on this clear violation of federal law. He is also not helping his CEO buddies. It's called keeping people in prison who should be there.

He's not looking our for his private prison CEO buddies... oh really? GEO Group, one of the nation’s largest for-profit prison operators, donated $250,000 to support Trump’s inaugural festivities, Pablo Paez, the company’s vice president of corporate relations, told USA TODAY. That’s on top of the $225,000 that a company subsidiary donated to a super PAC . Another prison operator, CoreCivic, gave $250,000 to support Trump’s inauguration, recently filed congressional reports show.
Let me guess that's fake news though huh

Capt Jeff S. - So it's legal for states to be in charge of their own affairs when it comes to abortion, voting, education, etc. but not this? The only penalty that the federal govt. has is that they can withhold federal money to states that legalized weed, which as of right now, none of them need. So, are states rights only that when its convenient or do states have the right to vote for and support what the people in that state want?

SSG Michael Hartsfield - well, in all fairness, states have the 10th Amendment to do just that, vote for their own laws to fill in the gaps between the laws of the Constitution, so long as those laws do not circumvent the rights enumerated by the laws therein. The issue is when federal law says "can't do/possess/cause to/take away" etc., and a state puts a ballot measure circumventing that federal law, and the people vote that in, that is against the law. Just because no enforcement action was taken by the Obama Administration doesn't mean it was lawful to enact it. This was in line with Obama's general ideaology of "I don't agree with that law so the right thing to do is not follow it, because after all the Constitution was written by slave owners, so it's a null and void document to begin with."

The worst kind of ignorance is willful ignorance. It's good that you want to keep Trump accountable, but you missed a golden opportunity to hold someone accountable that used you for your vote and then threw you under the bus to court the Hispanic vote. Unemployment went up (especially among blacks), and blacks became even more dependent on government to help them make ends meet... And he wasted trillion$ in the process. Oh, and did I mention, he wasn't even constitutionally qualified to be President? You make me laugh!

Capt Jeff S. - Really? And what made him constitutionally unqualified?
And speaking of which, I don't know if you knew this or not but Obama was AMERICA'S president, not Black America's president. So your assertion that Obama should have done more for me and those that share my heritage at the expense of everyone else shows how myopic and utterly stupid your comment and viewpoint is, especially since if he would have done that, you and people like you would have whined to high heaven about it. Also, I'm laughing at you and the fact that while you attempt to cast yourself as some "constitutionalist", the president you support is wiping his ass with it.
