The Deep State is real and it's using Russia as a wedge issue to separate Americans and their President. Obviously, they are also creating a wedge between Russians and Americans. This can't end well, can it?

GySgt John Olson - Deep state are the career bureaucrats who have usurped the basic functions of government - Executive, Legislative, and Judicial - and answer to no constituency. They "soldier on" to the beat of their own ideology. Sadly, during the past eight years, those who rose to the highest ranks are attempting to hold the fort until the Democrats can return to power and are doing everything in their power to impede the current elected Administration.

GySgt John Olson - If only. However, to be fair, they didn't usurp the power. It was handed to them. As true patriots, they might have refused it, but they didn't. Now they are our lords and masters, and they appear to be enjoying it. More importantly, they have convinced themselves that they deserve it which is why it's been so hard taking back the power to govern ourselves. As for ideologies "changing", keep in mind that the progressive agenda of the Left has been a work in progress in America for more than a century. The intellectuals of Woodrow Wilson's Administration were chaffing at the restrictions place on the Executive by the Constitution. They were convinced that they knew better than the rest of America and should be empowered to rule over their inferiors. Of course, they couldn't. The myth of the "rugged individualist" still pervaded the land. However, in time the progressive Left gained more and more power. They exercised it far more freely during the Administration of FDR. Still, they weren't confident to proclaim that power. President Obama was the first to announce "I have a pen and a phone" and not worry about being carried from the Oval Office by a mob with pitchforks and torches. So, no, your vision of ideologies changing with each Administration is way off the mark.

I think we tend to over-complicate things...on both sides of the aisle.

There are no jackbooted thugs conspiring to lock liberals up or commit "ethnic cleansing". There are no "prepared" concentration camps awaiting millions of Americans unwilling to surrender their 1st or 2nd Amendment rights. There is no "Manchurian Candidate"...nor a "Russian" one either.

It all comes down to one thing... money.

Rich or poor, powerful or not...Americans largely make most of their choices with their pocketbooks. The "Deep State" is merely the physical manifestation of a system that actually allows people to accumulate large amounts of wealth and power for doing actually very little. It's a machine that runs on public opinion...something millions of "middling" Americans actively participate in creating. Some of us work in marketing, copywriting, sales, preparing contracts, issuing licenses, filing reports, ensuring compliance...it all support the notion that "X" dollars have to be spent on "Y" activities. In this system, some gain...some maintain...and some get "played". The "secret" is how the "powers that be" balance the equation containing all three to arrive at status quo.

Trump's election upset that status quo.

It's not Donald Trump they're after... it's the idea that Trump could be elected that scares them. It's the first sign of serious cracks in the foundation of the "money machine". In my opinion, the real reason the DNC can't seem to get on one page is that they're being forced to court the only thing they fear more than the American voter...actual Bolshevism. That's why they're championing a couple of Caucasian "Boomers" while their "base" is being led in chants for the radical notions that have become Democratic politicians' only remaining card.

As for Russia...Russia wants to be what it was in 1818...not 1918. They sense we're the new "sick man of the globe", and they're hoping we're on our way to second place-with, or without their help. Their leaders have a different strategy...one that hinges upon nostalgia for a once-great past, and the white-washed version of their current economic and social situation which cannot help but look better than what it was two decades ago.
