On the one hand I am dismayed that the POTUS fails to recognize the contributions of transgender service members and would use the excuse that it costs too much money. He could save a lot more money by simply changing the policy so that the military no longer supplies Viagra to retirees. On the other hand, I never really doubted that he was a hateful bigot, and I'm surprised it took him this long to prove it beyond any doubt.

He's a businessman, not a bigot. Personally, I have no problem with transgenders serving ... as long as they complete their gender transformation before entering the service. As long as they pass their entrance physical and psych eval, more power to them. I do believe that for all service members, as they enter, so should they leave. The Pentagon, and ultimately the taxpayer, should not have to pay for their gender transformation or take the readiness hit while they go through it. BTW, I agree that the Pentagon, and ultimately the taxpayer, shouldn't be paying for Viagra (or birth control) unless there is a medical reason for it.

LTC (Join to see) - The cost is pretty much negligible when compared to things like Viagra for retirees. He also didn't specify post-op, or any category of transgendered people. If he was worried about the cost of gender reassignment surgery he could have simply made it clear that no one could receive the surgery while serving.
Allowing yourself to believe that this is some sort of business decision is wishful thinking.

SSG (Join to see) - Allowing yourself to think Trump is a bigot is stupid. Nonetheless, suggest you re-read my comment. (1) I took a different position than Trump; (2) I agreed that the taxpayer shouldn't be paying for Viagra (or transgender treatment/surgery).

I didn't say your position was the same as Trump, I just reiterated the fact that this has nothing to do with cost (which seemed to be the implication when you claimed he is just a businessman). You can ignore the dozen or so indications that came to light while he was on the campaign trail (everything from being sued by the Justice department for not renting to black people to accusing a judge of being biased because he had Mexican heritage), you can ignore the fact that his Justice department is trying to role back protections against discrimination against LGBT persons or this move to prevent transgendered persons from serving in the military. You can even call people who pay attention to all this stuff stupid. That doesn't change the fact that he's clearly a bigot.
