so I bet there is more to the story, but could it be that some of the people that worked there where dependents and were transferred and that now that caused a shortage in personal at that child care facility and now they can not be replaced. There could be a few different reason for this to happen, it could be a simple as the boss hates Trump and is trying to make a point, I don't know.
People in Washington don't get it, putting a freeze on hiring is not the answer, replace those that leave and make the system more efficient. How any of you have tried to call the IRS, OPM or another government office to be on the phone for hours? My longest wait was 4 hours, from 0530 MST until 0930 MST when someone answered to phone back east. A couple of examples, 1) as a air traffic controller, you staff for the worst parts of the day, if its traffic, weather, special events, or just everyday traffic, 24/7/365 and a replacement can take up to 3 years to train, so that freeze today, causes a problem years from now. 2) when I retired, my pay was screwed up, it took 28 months to get it fixed. The lady who finally got my paperwork, since I retired under a special retirement, said she had about 25 more to review and check, but with 100's of people retiring from the federal government a month (just a guess when you consider how many people work in the government), she will always have a lot of files to check and go through, since OPM handles all government retirements. So she retires and those files go to someone else who has just as many to review and so it takes even longer.
