All the psych studies agree that animal torture is linked to other forms of sociopathic behavior including family violence.

Although I'm in favor of punishing those who would be cruel to animals, the left will use this law in conjunction with red-flag laws to confiscate weapons from anyone they deem cruel.
I've been told that leaving dogs in the yard is cruel. Hell, my dog has his own AC and heater. I've caught him sleeping in the yard at 38°F. He actually gets sad when I lock him up with the heater.
I've been told I should raise my dogs food and water bowls off of the floor so they don't hurt their necks, cruelty.

There is a good point to the food bowl thing. All the nature channels show that wolves only kill deer and whatnot on appropriately elevated tables.

I hate people that are purposely or negligently cruel to animals, but I feel that this is the province of state, not federal law.
Closing loopholes about jurisdiction over crimes on federal property is a good thing, though.

Same here - this behavior is already illegal, the new law will have negligible, if any, affect.
