Did you read who else was in the room from his administration. Would you rather speak or have a pair of flag officers speak on your behalf with 60 years combined military experience? I am sure if it was Bill Clinton he would have blathered on and on but that diminishes the effectiveness of the presentation. BTW, Trump like Reagan has always appointed a good team and then delegated.......it's his leadership style. It worked very well under Reagan when the military stakes were a lot higher than they are now.

I couldn't agree more, CPL, SPC. When POTUS added Gen. Mattis to his team, it was in my mind a huge sway point in his favor. Honestly, as the CPL said, letting military decisions be made by the militarily experienced IS the wisest choice.

Past experience has shown, lots of rhetoric is needed only if you have nothing to say of consequence.

Less is more with the big picture guys. Unless they truly are experts in the area of discussion, the more they say just gives room for others to pick apart. We know that there is much division that would cause this to happen and besides that it's also almost disrespectful to steal the thunder of the subject matter experts. He's not supposed to get down to the small details and it's better to just state his intent and let subordinates fill in the blanks. It also minimizes the impact of his words when he gets too specific. That's what they are there for, the details.

If a CO had to explain in detail what he/she wanted, there would be a wardroom seeking a new line of work. And we are talking about the leader of the free world.
