3,000 troops will not kick ass, even if they were all SEAL Team six. ISIS was weaker when we had 100,000 troops there originally. It's very close to a departure from Vietnam situation. We learned nothing from the Russians and history.

MCPO Roger Collins That has been a thought in my head the whole time. I mean, half of the reason that Soviet Russia fell apart is because they had to sink so much money into Afghanistan. We failed to learn from history there. Too many tribal issues. Too much vast area w/ too many hidey-holes for the bad guys.

It's a no win situation. The strategy should be how we get out and still provide the Afghans with the best possilbility for success. Or we stay there forever like Germany, Japan, and Korea. The difference of course is that those countries are stabilized.

I vote for get out.

SMSgt Thor Merich - I think I'm with you, sir. We're getting bogged down like the Soviets were.

MCPO Roger Collins,SSgt (Join to see) I agree all the number of troops won't really matter unless the mission and the endgame is clearly defined Vietnam the reason why the overall mission failed was lack of direction of what was the end goal of the war this so running in a simular direction.

SFC (Join to see) it has been a quagmire. No solid direction. Too many angles. No unity of native peoples to work with. No clearly defined enemy.
