I personally like the idea because it does highlight the military and makes it real for so many Americans who don't understand or support the military. I can remember marching in a big parade in El Paso after returning from Operation Desert Shield/Storm and even though it was not as big as the one mentioned in the article, it was still pretty impressive. I think too many young Americans have lost touch with reality and need a bit of military reinforcement.

As much as I hate "dog and pony shows" all the whiny snowflakes in this country need to remember one important fact about who we are as a nation:

Our nation was founded by men with guns, who said "No More!" when it came to oppression and tyranny. April 19th, 1775 was about keeping our guns and ammo, and being able to forge our own destiny, not be subjects of a far-away monarchy.

If that offends anyone, then they are FREE (there's that word) to leave America at any time. That's something that East Germans could not do in their own country after WW II until 1989.

It was also founded by people who despised the idea of standing armies.

LTC (Join to see) - Very true sir. It was natural that the new Americans would have been afraid of standing armies, as their experience with the British armed forces was not favorable in the least. However, as America, and later the United States developed into a world power, standing armed forces were not only a good idea, but necessary in order to maintain its borders and its sovereignty. As proof of this, the British attacked America in 1814 and burned Washington D.C. to the ground.
