Alnost every island we "secured" in the Pacific had pockets of Japanese resistance. Fanatical enemies like these do not surrender. You need to kill every single one of them. They tend not to surrender a lot either.

Cpl Jeff N. That was my assessment as well. Your comparing it to Japan in WWII reminded me of the Japanese who continued fighting after the formal surrender. The last officially was in 1974. I agree that ISIS members are too fanatical to allow even one to escape.
