It is a nice rifle but I'm not convinced it is better than the KA M110 that they already have. A shorter barrel already limits it for the job it's needed for.

What was wrong with the M110 SASS made by Knights Armament?

I'm not sure, but the KA M110 is a better rifle. Barrel length alone ensures that it is more accurate. I thought that was the point. The M110A 16" barrel handicaps the rounds performance. What do I know?

As far as the .308 is concerned, there really isn't much lost between 20" vs 16" barrels, and the longer barrel = more accuracy isn't necessarily true. In fact, in most cases the shorter barrel provides more consistent harmonics, which equates to a MORE accurate rifle than a longer barreled version.

I worked for a barrel maker. Longer has zero to to with accurate. It has everything to do with how far the round will go, not where it will go. Barrel accuracy comes from the barrel being able to repeatably have a bullet leave the barrel the same way every time. You could have a 12” barrel and I have a 28” barrel and your is more accurate. Mine just allows more efficient burning of the powder before the bullet leaves the barrel. Most custom barrel manufactures will not even let out what all they do to a barrel. They want you to think it is some type of voodoo.

I would suggest that all of you read the article at this link, and read it fully, not just the parts that fit your narrative.
Velocity at distance is what you want to achieve with a DMR weapon and short barrels do not cut it (no pun intended).

Wasn't the original idea for a DMR to ensure magazine/ammunition interoperability with the rest of the squad?

Just think of the job the up and logistics folks will have to deal with in ammo re-supply in the coming years. 5.56 for the CSS people, 6.8 for the regular infantry, 7.62 for DMR types, and then 300 win mag for the sniper guys. Heaven help ya if your organization crosses several of these boundaries. They never had it so good !! Now just gotta figger out what rifle/caliber combination works best for the task.
