This reminds me of the arrogance joke about a destroyer Captain.
There once was a destroyer off the coast of Ireland in heavy fog. The Radar officer told the Captain there was a large mass approaching. The radio went off and a voice came across telling the destroyer to change course. The Captain came back and stated this is the USS Whatever a United States Warship...I suggest you change course and divert immediately to avoid a collision. The voice came back on the radio and said this is the coastal lighthouse...your call!!

Can't understand how watch officers missed this. I don't know anything about naval navigation but IMHO they had to see it in plenty of time. I am sure someone will be held accountable as somebody's head will have to roll for this one.

That kind of goes with out saying. Following maritime law the Fitz was at fault. The larger question isn't what ship is at fault but what Watch standers were derelict in their duties and cause this death and destruction. How did the Fitz 3 Watch teams miss seeing a cargo ship coming right at them and not respond.

You're correct, but also following Maritime law, the Crystal was at fault as well.
