We have driven part of that route on a couple of occasions. My daughter lives just out of Murdo, SD. We drive south on 83 to Abilene, TX then cut across to Arizona.
The only problem is a lot of that country is pretty boring,, but that are some nice highlights.

South of Abilene when you hit the Texas Hill Country it is a little more exciting.

SCPO Morris Ramsey - Probably true,, but we are always headed to Prescott, AZ and take the more direct route.
Maybe next time I will go further south and cut across to visit my friends in Tombstone.
