I have a real problem with this- for the simple fact that the VA IS BROKEN!! We cannot keep throwing good money after bad and expect the problem to go away. We have got to stop the bleeding, analyze the situation come up with the best game plan then go forward. It makes no sense to hire people then realize that they shouldn't have been. Stop the bitching and let the man do his job- he has done more in 2 weeks than Obama did in 8 years.

Been saying that for years. The problem is, the normal process is replace the department head and throw more resources at the problem. If our political leaders had to use the VA for themselves and their families in accordance with existing rules, it would be transformed fast.

Agree. I honestly believe the VA is more concerned with preserving its bureaucracy than accomplishing its mission. There are way more efficient ways to provide healthcare in 2017 than ever, but the VA only wants to do it their way and on their own; absolutely stupid in my mind.

One of the very reasons I never have and never will join any veterans organization. Some are just benefits hounds and any hint at a cut in a budget or not getting what they want and they throw a hissy fit. Trump has made big promises about the VA. He needs to be given a chance to delivery.

They might consider that one of the reasons he does not want more hiring at the VA is he will begin letting people go private. He also knows the hiring and management structure at the VA is broken. Obama had 8 years and it was worse the day he left that the day he started. Trump hasn't had 8 days yet and the whining begins. Suck it up boys it could get bumpy.

With you on joining Vet organizations. One thing I'd add is that we may find VA has plenty of providers that just need better management that will refocus on taking care of vets.

I belong to VFW, AL, MOAA, ROA, AUSA and a few others. Mainly just to read their magazines and stay informed. I must say that they seem exactly as you describe. While I support a number of their campaigns, to a large part what I read is "me, me, me!! more, more, more!!"

What's funny to me is people don't want to pay high taxes but nobody wants to lose their bennies. I use the VA as my only source of medical care. Even doing the awful days of the VA in PHX I received excellent care. Give the VA employees respect you get that respect back.
That being said, why don't the people who are complaining about this take the time to read the actual Executive Order? In the Order, he gives pretty specific means of placing resources where they are needed. He also explains when the freeze will be lifted. It requires Congress to do their jobs and write an actual budget. Something many of us veterans have been screaming about for a long time.
Before you go screaming about the VA not being funded remember what you were screaming about last year, the year before and so on. Let's give President Trump more than a week to get this all fixed. President Obama couldn't fix it in eight years.

Like with everything else, the bad stories get the attention. Stories like yours get back page or not published at all.
