I seem to remember we tried that here in the US for awhile, but it really didn't go anywhere. Wonder why it didn't. I am guessing the load on the electrical grid would be greatly reduced if you could put some of these big buildings on geothermal.

PFC (Join to see) - I was reading about the new nuke reactors. Apparently they can fit in a couple of truck trailers. Bury them, bring the power leads out and they are fairly safe and maintenance free. Unfortunately, I think we have a cultural aversion to nuke power from Chernobyl, 3 Mile Island, and Fukushima didn't help. Doesn't matter that reactors are much safer and will actually solve a lot of the energy and climate issues.

LT Brad McInnis I'm sick of the new green deal solar bs. If people want to keep energy consumption the same without delays or black outs nuclear is the only viable option. Nuclear can reduce the human acceleration of global warming. People keep saying the goal is to eliminate it an it's not possible. You have global warming from radiation the sun volcanic activity. The goal should be to reduce human impact. Nuclear is the only way to go. Anyone who thinks we can power this country off solar, wind, hydroelectric isn't very realistic. Especially with the rise of electric cars an charging stations. You want to wean off oil an fossil fuels you gotta go nuclear.

PFC (Join to see) - I have cousins that work at a coal power plant in North Dakota. A couple of years ago, they had to help construct massive wind turbine farms. Now, after the owners realize how expensive it is to actual do the maintenance, they are all sitting inactive. You are right and I agree that nuke is the only way to go. We have plenty of people that know how to do it (nuke carriers and subs), but unfortunately, I think that no one really wants to solve problems. For, if they solve them, then they have to figure out what the next thing is...

LT Brad McInnis if people actually got to the root problems an fixed them with the proper solutions we'd be in a better place but it's easier to pizz an moan an blame the other side then do the right thing. By fixing environmental issues they move on to the next issue but its good. Once we put that behind us we can figure out how to properly replace our infrastructure. We can figure out how to make poverty non existent or close to non existent in this country. So many things could be accomplished if loved at realistically but no unfortunately.

Sounds good, not sure about how it works for electrical generation but a school that I taught at had 5 deep wells drilled and installed geothermal heat using heat from the ground. Was not cheap but once installed and running it was going to save them several hundred thousand per year in electrical bills.
