The market is reacting to artificially inflated labor costs. The cost of labor in the US is out of control. It doesn't matter if you get a raise any more if the regulatory fifth branch creates barriers to labor.
If you want a career in the future, a degree in gender/ethnic studies will not get you very far, but robotics or programming with a specialty in AI will definitely keep you employed longer.

Just had this conversation a couple of days ago. The major line on budgets is related to employees salaries and benefits along with associated expenses. Many fast food restaurants are replacing human employees with automation devices. Brought on my minimum pay mandates and costs associated with Obamacare. Once the cost of development these devices are recovered, it stands to reason the would propagate through out the world.
