Aseel Salman served as an interpreter in Iraq before continuing her service and enlisting in the Marines.
After an American service member was shot, the other soldiers needed an interpreter to help with the investigation, and Salman, who speaks English and Arabic, stepped up to help. From 2003 to 2007, Salman worked with the American military in Iraq, using her dual-language skills as an interpreter.
While recruit training is designed to push and challenge prospective Marines, Salman may have had a leg up on her peers. During her time as a military interpreter she went on numerous raids with American troops.

That's awesome so many negative stories about Muslim community this is awesome that she decided to come to America and serve!

That's an assumption that she is muslim. The story did not mention her religious preference. She could be one of many religions in the area or none at all.

This true she could be another religion! While I was in Iraq I did many people who were not Muslim.

Religion aside, there are also plenty of negative stories about Iraqis, particularly with the Iraqi army's failure to prevent the spread of the IS over much of the country. It's great to see stories that remind us that the country has also produced some outstanding individuals.

This is such a refreshing story of great strength. So much negativity about Iraq, more things like this need to come to light.
